Erwin Schneider (soccer player, 1955)

Erwin Schneider (born January 3, 1955 in St. Margarethen ; † September 1, 2007 ) was an Austrian football player and functionary.

Erwin Schneider began his career at his home club SV St. Margarethen , where he was the top scorer in 1973/74 with 20 goals in the third-class Burgenland regional league . So he moved to the nearby Bundesliga club SC Eisenstadt , where the winger scored 6 goals in 21 games in his first professional season, including a brace against Rapid . With the Eisenstädtern, he still had to go to the second-rate national league. The recovery finally succeeded in 1979/80 , where the club prevailed in front of 13,000 spectators against 1. Simmeringer SC with a 3-1, in which Erwin Schneider also met, in the long-distance duel against SSW Innsbruck as second division champions.

But Erwin Schneider also had to accept relegation in his second first division season, but this time the Eisenstadt team managed to get back up immediately in 1981/82 . Erwin Schneider was able to establish himself with his club in the top Austrian league, he himself scored an impressive 13 goals in the 1982/83 season . Good placements also brought the club international participation in the UEFA Intertoto Cup and the Mitropacup , which was also won in 1984. After a total of 135 first division appearances (29 goals), Erwin Schneider returned to St. Margarethen in 1985 in the regional league . In 1986 he was voted the best player of the tournament at the BFV Hallenmasters . In 1998 Schneider took over the chairmanship of his home club.
