Essenz is a Berlin Black Doom band that was founded in 2007.

history

The band was formed in 2007. After a first self- release EP called Metaphysis in 2009, the debut album KVIITIIVZ - conjuring the unspeakable followed in 2010 via Amor Fati Productions . For the 2012 album Mundus Numen , the group switched to Svart Records before returning to the previous label for Manes Impetus in 2018 . In the same year the band was among other things at the Party.San to see.

style

Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann from Rock Hard called KVIITIIVZ - conjuring the unspeakable as " occult black metal ". The album starts with dark and ritual Doom Metal , in which the group sounds like a wicked version of esoteric and skepticism . In their songs "conjures up, meditates and grunts [the band] all sorts of black philosophy". This is followed by a hysterical-sounding mixture of death and especially black metal , reminiscent of bands like Celtic Frost , old Samael and old Mayhem . In a later edition, Mühlmann reviewed Mundus Numen and found that the band “ inherited the musical, content and production-related holism and the occult mesmerism of Tom G. Warriors Triptykon ” and assigned the group to Black and Doom Metal. The songs “hurt and fascinate”, are “powerful and basic, epic and jagged all in one” and “they shake powerfully and destructively”. In a later edition, Mandy Malon wrote that the band can be classified between Black, Death and Doom Metal. The music has a “transforming, spherical, swirling, bubbling, barely tangible effect”, with influences from the ambient and noise . In an interview with her, G.ST gave "pain, intoxication, destruction and ecstasy " as inspiration.

Anders Ekdahl from battlehelm.com wrote in his review of Manes Impetus that it was a mixture of Black and Doom Metal. David Simonton from voicesfromthedarkside.de also reviewed the album and assigned it to Black Doom. The songs are atmospheric and varied with rough vocals. The speed of the songs is usually low. Robert Müller from Metal Hammer also found a mixture of Black and Doom Metal on the album, as was already present on the previous album. Most of the songs are minimalist.
