The Estadio Municipal Vero Boquete de San Lázaro is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela . Among other things, it serves as the home ground of the SD Compostela football club . Since November 2018, the facility has been named after the soccer player Verónica "Vero" Boquete , who comes from Santiago de Compostela.

history

The stadium is located in the east of the city of Santiago in the San Lázaro district and was inaugurated on June 24, 1993 with a game between Deportivo La Coruña and the Argentine record champions River Plate from Buenos Aires . The first goal scorer was the Brazilian striker Bebeto . The construction of the sports facility went hand in hand with the rapid rise of the SD Compostela football club, which first took part in the Primera División in the 1994/95 season . The club should remain in the top division for four years, which was followed by a deep fall into the regional league . In the summer of 2001, the stadium was intended to host the FIFA Club World Cup , but the World Football Association canceled it two months before the start of the tournament. From 2006 to 2009, local rivals SD Ciudad de Santiago also played their home games in the Multiusos de San Lázaro.

The sports facility has an oval floor plan and an eight-lane synthetic track , the grandstands are completely covered and can accommodate 12,000 visitors.
