The Esterliturm is an observation tower from reinforced concrete south of Lenzburg in Switzerland .
situation
The tower, built in 1974, is composed of 19 concrete pipe elements each 2.50 meters high and has a total height of 48 meters. The viewing platform at a height of 45 meters is accessible via a staircase inside the tower over 253 steps. Eighteen slightly offset narrow windows provide the lighting. This tower is not the first in this location. The first Esterli tower made of wood was built as early as 1906.
Hiking trails lead from Egliswil to the lookout tower in around 15-20 minutes .
The tower offers a panoramic view from the Black Forest to the Alps . Eight panorama boards from 1977/1978 inform the visitors about the possible view and the technical data of the tower.
Naming
On the western side of the Esterliturm you will find the name "Esterli" on the national map. This used to be the cattle passage in the grazed forest between Lenzburg and Egliswil. The first Esterliturm stood there and was hardly bigger than today's high seat for hunters. This is where the name Esterliturm is derived from this field name.
World record in climbing stairs
On October 6, 2007, Kurt Hess from Unterkulm set a new world record for climbing stairs. He climbed the tower 413 times in 24 hours. This results in a total of 18,585 vertical meters (104,489 steps). This makes him the sole world record holder in altitude meters covered within 24 hours (37,170 meters in 24 hours, up and down).
