Ettore Baistrocchi

Ettore Baistrocchi (born February 26, 1905 in Livorno ; † 1996 ) was an Italian diplomat .

Life

On July 10, 1926, Baistrocchi graduated from the University of Rome with a degree in business administration , and two years later he joined the foreign service. In 1930 he became Vice Consul in São Paulo . From 1933 to 1935 he was employed in the Embassy of Montevideo , from 1936 to 1939 in Belgrade. From 1940 to 1942 he was consul in Tokyo .

After the overthrow of Benito Mussolini on September 8, 1943, he was interned, along with many other Italian diplomats who were stationed in Japan and were brought to a Japanese concentration camp when they refused to become subjects of the Italian Social Republic in Salò . In 1945 he was liberated by American troops and returned to Italy.

From 1946 to 1949 he had exequatur as consul general in Osaka - Kobe , from 1950 to 1954 in Buenos Aires , 1955 in Alexandria and from 1956 to 1961 in Paris . From 1961 to 1965 he was ambassador to Lima . He was ambassador to Kinshasa from 1966 to 1970 and was then retired .

He wrote articles for the magazines Storia Illustrata , Il Tempo , Die Arena di Verona and the magazine Gente .

His son is Massimo Baistrocchi (* 1942).
