Euan Michael Ross Geddes, 3rd Baron Geddes (born September 3, 1937 ) is a British peer and politician and Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords .

life and career

He is a son of Ross Geddes, 2nd Baron Geddes , and attended Rugby School , Warwickshire , and Gonville and Caius College , Cambridge , where he graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts in history and a Master of Arts graduated. Geddes graduated from Harvard Business School in 1969 . He inherited his father's title in 1975.

Geddes was in the Royal Navy from 1956 to 1958 and became Lieutenant-Commander (Corvette Captain) of the Royal Naval Reserve. He was Development Manager at P&O Bulk Shipping. Between 1975 and 1977 he was Deputy Head of P&O Asia (Hong Kong). Since 1992 he has been chairman of Trinity College, London and since 2000 of Chrome Castle Ltd. He is also a director of Trinity College of Music .

He is a member of the Conservative Party . With the passage of the House of Lords Act 1999 , he lost the automatic seat in the House of Lords along with all other Hereditary Peers. However, he was elected as one of the 92 elected Hereditary Peers to remain in the House after the reform. Since 2002 he has been Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords.

He was married twice, first to Gillian Butler since 1966, and to Susan Margaret Carter after her death. He has two children by his first wife, a daughter and a son, his heir to the title, the Hon. James George Neil Geddes .
