course
It rises in the north of the Kosciuszko National Park . The source is located in the national park and is therefore quite well protected from human access, only the Snowy Mountains Highway crosses the catchment area.
The river flows south into Lake Eucumbene , the largest reservoir in the Snowy Mountains system . Below the dam, the river valley continues to the former confluence with the Snowy River , which is now in Lake Jindabyne .
In spring, the melting snow feeds the river around Kiandra , a gold rush town of the 19th century.
