Eugène Ernest Hillemacher (born October 13, 1818 in Paris ; † March 3, 1887 ibid) was a French painter who is classified as academic art .

Life

Hillemacher was the son of Guilleaume Hillemacher and Wilhelmine Christine Faber. He received his training at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris by Léon Cogniet . In 1840 he exhibited for the first time in the Salon de Paris , which he repeated with great regularity over the next 40 years. He was awarded first class medals three times, and in 1869 he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor .

In 1850 Hillemacher married Isabelle Julie Antoinette Oosterlinck. Hillemacher's brother Frédéric Désiré became a well-known engraver, while his sons Paul Hillemacher and Lucien Hillemacher were well-known composers who won the Prix ​​de Rome .

Hillemacher died in 1887 in his house at 46 Boulevard Magenta in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. The holdings of his studio were auctioned on May 7th of the same year at the Hôtel Drouot .
