Eugene Aellen

Eugen Aellen (born March 22, 1887 in Zurich ; † January 3, 1945 in Arlesheim near Basel ) was a Swiss poet and teacher .

life and work

After studying German at the University of Basel , Aellen taught German as a teacher at the Cantonal School in Schaffhausen from 1910 . In 1912 he received the title of Dr. phil. In the same year, his dissertation, Sources and Style of Paul Gerhardt's Songs: A Contribution to the History of Religious Poetry of the XVII. Published in the 19th century .

In 1924 his first literary work, the poetry book Gedichte, was published by Benno Schwabe & Co. in Basel . In 1929 the volume Freie Rhytmen was published by the Münsterpresse in Horgen-Zurich. In 1934 he published another volume of poetry with the book Poems of the Wanderer . In 1937 the volume Fifty Fables was finally published. In 1939 the 16-page print Sommer: Wir wandern durch die Felder was published in Zurich : Small cantata for youth choir, mixed choir and instruments: Op. 67. with the music of the composer Rudolf Moser and the texts of Eugen Aellen.

Aellen died in Arlesheim in January 1945 at the age of 57.
