Rudolf Moser (composer)

Rudolf Moser (born January 7, 1892 in Niederuzwil , canton of St. Gallen , † August 20, 1960 in Silvaplana , canton of Graubünden ) was a Swiss composer and music teacher . He was a citizen of Arlesheim ( Canton Basel-Landschaft ).

Life

Moser grew up in Basel in a house near Steinenschanze, not far from the Basel Conservatory , where he received violin lessons; in addition, he sang with the Basel choir as a child . His musical talents were also promoted at home by making music at home, so that Moser received piano and music theory lessons at the conservatory while still at school. After graduating from the Humanities College he studied several semesters Theology at the University of Basel before he moved to Leipzig in 1912 and there with Max Reger , Hans Sitt and Julius Klengel began his musical studies.

After the outbreak of the First World War , Moser returned to Basel in 1914 and continued his studies at the conservatory with Hans Huber , Hermann Suter and Joseph Lauber ; he also attended musicological lectures at the university with Karl Nef .

After completing his studies, in 1928 the director of the conservatory, the composer Felix Weingartner , appointed Moser to teach composition and music theory. The best-known musicians who studied with Moser there include Walter Müller von Kulm , Paul Sacher and Yehudi Menuhin .

In 1939 the 16-page print Sommer was published in Zurich : "We wander through the fields: Small cantata for youth choir, mixed choir and instruments: Op. 67. with music by Rudolf Moser to the texts of the poet Eugen Aellen .

From 1956 until his death he was President of the Knabenkantorei Basel . In 1960 Moser, a passionate alpinist , died in a mountain accident near Silvaplana.
