Eugene Lecher

Eugen Lecher (born March 26, 1895 in Dornbirn ; † May 17, 1980 in Dornbirn- Haselstauden ) was an Austrian politician and savings bank director. From 1934 to 1938 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

Lecher attended elementary school in Haselstauden and secondary school in Dornbirn. In 1914 he passed the Matura and was subsequently drafted into the military, where he did military service with the II. Tyrolean Kaiserjägerregiment between 1915 and 1918 . After taking the supplementary high school diploma at the Feldkirch high school in 1919, he attended high school graduation courses at the commercial academy in Innsbruck between 1920 and 1921 , and he also studied law in Innsbruck from 1918 to 1921. In 1921 he completed his studies with a doctorate to become Dr. iur. at the University of Innsbruck. He then worked as a judge candidate in Dornbirn and Feldkirch from 1921 to 1925 and passed the judge's examination in 1925. As a result, however, he was employed as director of the Dornbirner Sparkasse from 1925 to 1968 . He also did military service in World War II between 1942 and 1945 and was a Soviet prisoner of war between 1945 and 1946.

Politics and functions

Lecher was a member of the Dornbirn municipal council from 1929 to 1934, and in 1934 he was appointed by the governor of Vorarlberg to become a member of the state parliament as a professional representative for the monetary, credit and insurance sectors. He was a member of the state parliament during the period of the corporate state and Austrofascism from November 14, 1934 until the annexation of Austria on March 12, 1938 and was chairman of the finance committee in the 1934/35 session.

From 1926 he was a member of the board of the Main Association of Austrian Savings Banks in Vienna and was a member of the management of this association from 1955. He was also active as a member of the regional management of the Fatherland Front of Vorarlberg and represented the monetary, credit and insurance sectors on the advisory board of the regional management. From 1929 to 1938 he was also a member of the board of directors of Vorarlberger Kraftwerke AG and the state electricity company, and in 1947 he served as a councilor for the Chamber of Commerce and from 1948 as chairman of the money, credit and insurance section of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce. From 1947 he was also a member of the supervisory board of the Girozentrale of the Austrian savings banks in Vienna and from 1957 its vice-president. He was also involved as chairman of the Dornbirn tourist office, was co-founder and chairman of the board of directors of the export and sample fair in Dornbirn and a member of the board of trustees of the economic development institute. He supported the Rotarians as treasurer and chaired the finance committee of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce as chairman. He was also a member of the supervisory board of Steiermärkische Bank in Graz.

Private

Eugen Lecher was the son of the silk printer Johann Lecher (1865–1949) and his wife Theresia Humpeler (1868–1953). He married Hermine Mäser (1903–1947) in Dornbirn on August 16, 1926, and between 1927 and 1938 he had three children. After the death of his first wife, Lecher married Gisela Josefine Rosa Scherer (widowed Glass), born in Schärding , on November 26, 1955 in Linz , although this marriage remained childless.
