Eugene Wolbe

Eugen Wolbe (born April 6, 1873 in Berlin ; † September 22, 1938 ibid) was a German pedagogue, publicist and autograph collector .

Live and act

Eugen Wolbe came from a Berlin Jewish family. From 1904 he was a senior teacher at the 5th Realschule (later Fichte Realschule) in Berlin-Moabit . He wrote numerous biographies , worked as an editor (including works by Berthold Auerbach , Karl von Holteis and Friedrich von Bodenstedt ) and wrote a large number of articles in various newspapers and magazines.

On April 3, 1933, Wolbe was released from school service. In 1938 he died of a heart attack. His grave is in the Jewish cemetery in Berlin-Weißensee . His wife Rosa, b. Brutzkus (1882–1942) was later deported to Riga and murdered there; his son Shlomo Wolbe (1914-2005) worked as a rabbi in Stockholm and later in Israel.

On May 8, 2003, a memorial plaque was unveiled for him and his colleague Moritz Arndt (1889–1942) at Wolbe's former school (today part of the Moses Mendelssohn High School ) .

Part of Wolbe's estate is in the Austrian Literature Archive in Vienna .
