Eugenio A. Beltrami

Eugenio A. Beltrami (born May 30, 1930 in Marling near Meran , Italy ; † May 10, 1995 in Zurich , Switzerland ) was an Italian inventor and former motorcycle racer.

Eugenio Beltrami was born on May 30, 1930 in the Marling Villa Inderst. His father Eugen Beltrami (1896–1970) came from an Italian-Swiss family from Winterthur and was a great-grandson of Johann Georg Deller (1808–1879), founder of the Winterthur BWT Bau AG . He left Switzerland in 1916 and took part in the Italian 33rd Infantry Regiment in the battles on the Isonzo and the Dolomites during the First World War. The mother Giuseppina Goser (1888-1954) came from Rovereto .

Life

When the father accepted a job at the Montecatini power station in Marling in 1927 , the family moved to Marling. However, Eugenio Beltrami spent his childhood and youth in the nearby spa town of Merano , where he had lived with his family in the Untermais district since 1931 . Between 1950 and 1952 he took part in various motorcycle races in the amateur class. After a serious motorcycle accident in 1952, however, he gave up his racing career. In 1958 he moved to Zurich, where he worked as a microelectronics technician. During this time he was already busy with various inventions in the field of fitness , some of which he applied for patents.

Pedal expander

In 1970 he applied for a patent for his pedal expander . His new type of fitness device enabled simple and comprehensive training of various muscle groups. The innovative fitness device was produced under the brand name EUBEL in Urdorf near Zurich from 1971 and was successfully sold in Europe and the USA in the years that followed. The fitness device in its various versions is still one of the world's most popular home fitness devices today.

Award

A milestone was the year 1972, when Eugenio Beltrami achieved second place and the award of the silver medal at the 21st Salon international des inventions - Bruxelles with his invention .
