Euonymopsis is a genus of plants fromthe spindle tree family (Celastraceae). It consists of four species, all of which are native to Madagascar.

description

Euonymopsis species are hairless trees or shrubs. The leaves are opposite or in whorls , are entire, toothed, notched or prickly-toothed.

The inflorescence is sympodial or a fascicle and underarm, cauliflora is rarely found . The flowers are bisexual and five-fold, the disc is ring-shaped, fleshy and five-lobed. The stamens arise from the discus. The dust bag open along the center of the flower toward or away from, the ovary is fünffächrig, each subject there are four to twelve ovules .

The fruit is an egg-shaped, elliptical, or elongated fleshy berry that contains five to ten seeds . The seeds are spherical or egg-shaped and rich in protein, surrounded by an aril .

distribution

The genus is endemic to Madagascar , where it occurs in tropophilic forests and dry scrub.

Systematics

The genus was first described in 1942 by Joseph Marie Henri Alfred Perrier de la Bâthie , the original spelling was E v onymopsis . According to Article 60.5 of the ICBN , this has to be adapted, the genus is therefore now called Euonymopsis . It includes four types:
