The Euroregion Clinic Bentheim is a specialist hospital in the district town of Nordhorn in Grafschaft Bentheim near the Dutch border. It is the academic teaching hospital of the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster .

In 2013, around 20,000 inpatients and around 40,000 outpatients were treated in the clinic. It is also one of the largest employers in the region.

history

The clinic emerged on July 19, 2007 from the two previously existing Nordhorn hospitals.

The previous facility , Grafschafter Klinikum , formerly the Nordhorn District Hospital , was founded on January 19, 1902 as the Evangelical Hospital in Nordhorn . On October 1, 1925, the hospital was given the responsibility of the Grafschaft Bentheim district and was called Nordhorn District Hospital from then on . Since April 1, 1952, the city of Nordhorn has also been the sponsor of the hospital, accordingly the name was changed to Nordhorn District and City Hospitals . When the city of Nordhorn left the sponsorship on December 31, 1986, the hospital was renamed Nordhorn District Hospital again . With the emerging tendency towards upheaval in the health system ( health policy in Germany , health reforms , hospital dying ), the first measures to restructure the health facilities in Grafschaft were taken in the 1990s. On July 1, 1996, the district hospital was run by the district and on January 1, 1998 it was transferred to a non-profit limited company and renamed the Grafschafter Klinikum . The Grafschafter Klinikum had up to 398 beds. Also in the late 1990s, the Grafschafter Klinikum drew negative attention to itself as part of a malpractice litigation.

The Catholic Marienkrankenhaus Nordhorn was founded on November 3, 1927 as the second predecessor facility. Just like the Nordhorn district hospital, there was strong growth, especially in the post-war years. In 1993 a major fire caused considerable damage to the Marienkrankenhaus. On May 6, 1997 the Marienkrankenhaus was converted into a non-profit GmbH, also in order to be better able to survive in the changed market environment. The Marienkrankenhaus Nordhorn had up to 260 beds.

Due to the changed framework conditions, structural change continued to be pushed. This culminated on July 19, 2007 when the two previously independent Nordhorn hospitals were merged under the umbrella of a joint holding company. Since then, the two houses have existed as dependent daughters under the common mother, Euregio-Klinik Grafschaft Bentheim Holding gGmbH . This massive restructuring was funded with funds from the State of Lower Saxony , which contributed around € 31 million of the total investment of € 52 million. The construction work on the Albert-Schweitzer-Straße site for the somatic area began in 2008 and, with the relocation of the somatic departments from Hannoverstraße to Albert-Schweitzer-Straße. to be largely completed on April 1, 2011.

In addition, there are plans to build a new medical center at the Albert-Schweitzer-Strasse site.

In February 2011, the completion of the merger was celebrated with a ceremony. Emergency care at the Hannoverstrasse location has been discontinued since mid-March 2011, and all patients remaining to date were relocated to the Albert-Schweitzer-Strasse location in the following days.

On June 1, 2011, the new neurology clinic was established.

In August 2011 speculations arose about a possible sale of the municipal shares to a hospital operator outside of the county of Bentheim. At the end of September 2011 it became known that the clinic was experiencing an acute liquidity shortage. As a result, both shareholders each provided a shareholder loan of € 1.5 million.

On February 1, 2012, the EUREGIO health facilities Grafschaft Bentheim GmbH was founded under the umbrella of the holding company. The Medical Care Center (MVZ) is located there. The MVZ currently consists of radiology and medical psychotherapy.

In March 2012, the palliative ward , which was partly financed by donations, was opened, in which various previous offers of the two former hospitals were combined.

The emergency practice / weekend emergency service of the Grafschafter doctors is located in the buildings of the Euregio Clinic. Since December 2010, the Euregio-Klinik has been certified as a regional trauma center in the trauma network Weser-Ems of TraumaNetzwerkD .

Locations

The clinic has the following two locations in Nordhorn:

  • Albert-Schweitzer-Straße (formerly: Grafschafter Klinikum )
  • Hannoverstrasse (formerly: Marienkrankenhaus )

Euregio Clinic Albert-Schweitzer-Strasse

After the renovation work was carried out by 2011, the number of beds at the Albert-Schweitzer-Strasse site rose to 415. With the implementation of the reorganization, all somatic departments were concentrated at the site. With the founding of the Euregio Clinic on July 19, 2007, the plan was to relocate the psychiatric clinic, which has been located on Albert-Schweitzer-Strasse since June 1, 1984, to Hannoverstrasse by 2013. In autumn 2012 a new concept was agreed with the state of Lower Saxony. The concept envisages that the psychiatric clinic will remain at the main location. The state subsidized the new construction and renovation with 13.5 million euros.
