Ludwig Karl Maria of Bavaria
Ludwig Karl Maria Prince of Bavaria (born June 22, 1913 in Nymphenburg Palace , Munich ; † October 17, 2008 in Leutstetten Palace , Starnberg ) was the last Wittelsbach prince to be born in Bavaria before the abolition of the monarchy .
Life
Ludwig was the first-born son of Franz Maria Luitpold of Bavaria and Princess Isabella von Croy (1890–1982) and therefore a grandson of the last Bavarian King Ludwig III.
After graduating from the Maximiliansgymnasium in Munich and completing basic military service, he studied forestry in Hungary .
At the beginning of the Second World War he served with the mountain troops , but was dismissed from active service as a result of the prince's decree and because of "political unreliability". In 1943, Ludwig von Bayern left Germany and went to Hungary to escape the increasing harassment from the Nazis. Ludwig had taken over the Wittelsbacher Stud Sárvár in Hungary from his father's inheritance from his grandmother . At the end of the war, he took the horses on an adventurous escape across the Russian lines to Leutstetten. His pursuit was horse breeding and with the Leutstetten horse , Ludwig von Bayern bred his own half-breed.
After the end of the war, Ludwig von Bayern was a member of the provisional council of Leutstetten for a short time . Later he was a non-party member of the FDP in the district assembly of Starnberg.
On July 19, 1950, he married his cousin Irmingard Princess of Bavaria in Leutstetten , a daughter from the second marriage of the last Bavarian Crown Prince Rupprecht .
Ludwig was a knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece . He is buried in the Wittelsbach family cemetery in Andechs Monastery .
