Luitpold Rupprecht Heinrich Prince of Bavaria (born April 14, 1951 in Leutstetten Castle , Starnberg ) is a great-grandson of the last King of Bavaria , Ludwig III, from both the father and mother side . since the two grandfathers were brothers.

Luitpold Prince of Bavaria was born to Ludwig Karl Maria Prince of Bavaria (1913-2008) and his cousin Irmingard Princess of Bavaria (1923-2010).

He studied law in Munich and has been running the business of the König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg since 1976 and is also managing director of König Ludwig International GmbH & Co. KG . In 1979 he founded the Kaltenberg knight tournament . In October 2011 he also took over the porcelain manufacturer Nymphenburg .

In addition to his professional work, Luitpold also does voluntary work. He is on the foreign trade committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Munich / Upper Bavaria and on the board of family businesses in Bavaria as well as the chairman of the board of trustees at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology .

On June 25, 1979, he married Katharina Beatrix Wiegand (born September 19, 1951) in Starnberg, a daughter of the architect Gerd Wiegand . The two have two daughters and three sons:

The residences of Luitpold Prince of Bavaria are Kaltenberg Castle and Leutstetten Castle .

Since the current head of the Wittelsbach family , Franz Herzog von Bayern , and his brother Max Emanuel Herzog have no male descendants in Bavaria , their successor as head of the house will in future be passed on to Luitpold, and then to his first-born son Ludwig Prince of Bavaria. The marriage of Luitpold Prince of Bavaria has been equal in terms of domestic law according to the document since March 3, 1999.
