Duke Maximilian Ludwig Konstantin Rudolf von Croÿ-Dülmen (born March 13, 1823 in Dülmen , † February 8, 1902 in Cannes ) was a Westphalian nobleman and Spanish grandee .

Rudolf von Croÿ belonged to the high nobility family of the Croÿ . His parents were Alfred X. Duke of Croÿ-Dülmen (1789–1861) and Eleonore zu Salm-Salm (1794–1871), daughter of Prince Konstantin zu Salm-Salm (1762–1828). In 1853 he married Princess Natalie de Ligne (1835–1863) for the first time. The couple had five children, including Isabella von Croÿ , Archduchess of Austria-Teschen. His son Karl von Croÿ became heir . Eleonore died a week after giving birth to the fifth child. Rudolf von Croÿ later married Eleonore zu Salm-Salm (1842-1891), a niece of his mother's, in his second marriage. This marriage was childless.

Life

Rudolf von Croÿ was a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece (Austrian Section) and Knight of Honor of the Order of Malta . In 1861 he inherited the Dülmen class and the extensive land and industrial property from his father. In 1862 he took the hereditary seat of the family in the Prussian manor house and in the provincial parliament of Westphalia. Rudolf von Croÿ belonged to the manor house until his death.

In his residence in Dülmen, Rudolf von Croÿ had the palace garden redesigned by the English horticulturist Edward Milner and planted numerous rare tree species. He continued his father's horse breeding to preserve the Dülmen wild horse .
