The Eurofima (European company for the financing of railway material) is an organization of the European railways with seat in Basel . The purpose of the business is to finance newly purchased locomotives and wagons in larger orders.

structure

The two largest shareholders among its 26 members are Deutsche Bahn AG and the Société nationale des chemins de fer français, each with 22.6 percent .

history

Eurofima was founded in 1955. The company's share capital is 2.6 billion Swiss francs.

In the 1970s , Eurofima also coordinated the development of a new series of passenger coaches for international traffic. The so-called Eurofima wagons ( air-conditioned compartment wagons, first class with nine compartments and second class with eleven compartments) were procured as a joint order by DB , FS , ÖBB , SBB / CFF / FFS , NMBS / SNCB and SNCF . The Eurofima C1 paintwork (orange with light gray stripes) was designed for the cross-border uniform design , but this was ultimately not implemented by all railway administrations. Eurofima cars are now used in many EuroCity and InterCity trains. The collective order of the vehicles did not bring the hoped-for savings, but several railway companies procured additional wagons of a similar type in the 1980s.

In 2002, the Czech state railway company České dráhy (ČD) became the 24th member . That year, the company issued loans of CHF 4.2 billion and received repayments of CHF 4.6 billion. In the following year, the volume awarded was CHF 4.1 billion and the return volume remained unchanged at CHF 4.6 billion. The net profit in 2003 fell to 45.7 million CHF.
