The Europäische Rundschau was an irregularly published cultural and political magazine that was published by the French press service in Vienna from 1946 to 1949 .
The focus of the magazine was on literature , fine arts , film , music , architecture , politics and religion . The aim was to create a “cultural foundation” for a new Europe that would have a “uniform social basis”, as the first issue of the magazine said. Initially, the focus was on French culture (although not exclusively): "French writers and artists were clearly given priority in the 'Europäische Rundschau', especially in the first two years of publication." Later, however, more Austrian artists were included in the program ( first Hans Weigel , 1946, issue 6/7). The last edition closes with an early literary travelogue by Ilse Aichinger (“Reise nach England”) with photos by Ernst Haas .
The "quarterly magazine for politics, economics and contemporary history" from 1973 (see also Europäische Rundschau ) is not the successor to this "Europäische Rundschau". The two magazines are not related.
