European environmental award

The European Environmental Award for companies (also called "European Business Awards for the Environment") is a 1990 by DG Environment of the European Union conferred in two annual basis economic price .

The competition was introduced to honor companies that bring innovation , economic feasibility and environmental issues together in an exemplary manner.

Design

The European Environment Prize for Business is awarded in five categories:

  • the “Management Prize for Sustainable Development” for companies whose environmental performance is permanently and measurably improved through their management
  • the “Product Prize for Sustainable Development” for the development of a new product or service that makes a special contribution to sustainable development
  • the "Prize for Sustainable Development Processes" for the development of new, environmentally friendly production techniques and processes
  • the “Prize for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development” for international partnerships that contribute to environmental protection , economic growth and social justice in a developing or emerging country
  • the "Prize for Biodiversity" for a project to preserve biodiversity and support ecosystems

The biodiversity category was only introduced in 2012.

Procedure

Companies wishing to take part in the European competition must first have successfully asserted themselves in the national programs. In Germany, the winners of the Innovation Prize for Climate and Environment (IKU) qualify for the European Business Awards for the Environment. The winners of the European Business Awards for the Environment are selected by an independent committee made up of environmental experts from business, public administration, non-governmental organizations , universities and the media.
