Europium (II) borate (Eu 3 [BO 3 ] 2 ) is a salt of europium and the borate - anion . In addition to the europium (II) borate, there is also the europium (III) borate (Eu [BO 3 ]).
Extraction and presentation
Europium (II) borate can be produced from europium sesquioxide with elemental boron and boron oxide via a borothermal reduction .
During this reaction , the elemental boron is oxidized and the europium is reduced.
properties
Europium (II) borate is ferromagnetic below 7.5 K. Europium (II) borate crystallizes isotypically to Takedait trigonal in the space group R 3 c (space group no.167 ) with a = 906.89 (3) pm and c = 1254.03 (5) pm with six formula units per unit cell . The compound begins at at 210 ° C air to oxidize .
