history

Armando Ronca: Eurotel Meran (1959), Meran

The Eurotel company was founded in 1956 by Gennaro Vanzo (1914–1998) in Bolzano with the intention of combining the principle of the hotel with that of the condominium . Among other things, the Eurotel system made it possible to swap with apartment owners at other locations.

The first Eurotel opened in Merano in 1959 and was developed in close collaboration with the Italian architect Armando Ronca , who was also responsible for the standardization of the residential units. After this prototype, another 35 Eurotels had been built across Europe (and the Dominican Republic) with a total of around 5700 rooms by the mid-1980s.

Today, around two thirds of the original Eurotels are still being run as conventional hotels, while a third have been converted into condominiums.
