Live and act

Eva Brandes grew up in Berlin. She first studied acting and later education, German, art and history at the local teacher training college . From 1962 to 1964 she worked as an actress and from 1968 to 1974 as a teacher. Then she worked for the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. From 1974 she taught as a professor for educational sciences and play education in the department of social education at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences . There she built up the majors “Leisure and Cultural Work” and “Aesthetics and Communication”. Together with the theater educator Hans-Wolfgang Nickel , she developed a curriculum for play and theater education at the University of Education in Berlin . Her “Draft Curriculum for Game Education”, published in 1978 and subsequently developed, is considered to be the forerunner of numerous curricula in the field of game and theater education.

Brandes worked with independent and amateur theater groups and was involved in various stage performances and festivals. This included in particular the Recklinghausen Amateur Theater Festival , in which she worked for many years as a program designer and lecturer.

From 1975 Brandes was involved in various initiatives of the peace and women's movement. She was a member of the “Joint Commission for Women's Studies / Women's Studies” at the University of Hamburg , the University of Economics and Politics and the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. In 1985 she joined the GAL and was elected to the 12th Hamburg citizenship in November of the following year . There Brandes belonged with twelve other MPs to the first all-women faction of the GAL. The focus of her political work was in the higher education sector. In May 1987, however, the citizenship was re-elected after failed coalition negotiations. Brandes lost her mandate and resigned from the GAL. She then worked for the Education and Science Union and on the staff council of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.

Brandes worked as a university lecturer until she retired in 2002. She lives in Brockhöfe near Uelzen .
