Evan Stewart (born June 11, 1975 in Harare ) is a former Zimbabwean water diver . He started jumping from the 1-meter and 3-meter board. Stewart won a world title and several medals at Commonwealth Games , he participated in three Olympic Games .

Stewart started diving at the age of twelve. He came to the sport, which was rather unknown in his home country, because his father built a pool with a 1-meter springboard in the garden. Stewart already took part in the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 , but on the 3-meter board he missed the finals in 20th place. Two years later he celebrated his greatest sporting success. At the 1994 World Cup in Rome , he was surprisingly world champion from the 1-meter board. At the Commonwealth Games in Victoria he also won bronze from the 1-meter board and silver from the 3-meter board. In 1996 he started again at the Olympic Games , in Atlanta he reached the semi-finals from the 3-meter board and just barely missed the final in 13th place. Two years later he started again at the World Cup . In Perth he reached sixth from the 1-meter board this time. In the same year he won the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur from the 1-meter board. Stewart took part in the Olympic Games for the third time in a row in 2000 . In Sydney , however, as 38th from the 3-meter board, he was unable to continue his previous performances. Following the Games, he ended his active career.

To this day, Stewart is the only African diver who has won a medal at world championships.

Between 1993 and 1997, Stewart studied at the University of Tennessee and started for the university's sports team, the Volunteers . He won a total of two titles at college championships and was named college diver of the year in 1996.

His mother, Anthea Stewart , was a member of the Zimbabwe national hockey team, which won gold at the 1980 Olympics .
