Evangelienberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Evangelienberg was a prehistoric burial mound between Bernburg (Saale) and today's district of Baalberge , which was probably destroyed in the 18th or early 19th century.

location

The exact location of the Evangelienberg is not known. In 1710 Johann Christoph Bekmann only wrote about the location that it was "on this side of Palberg after the stat [di Bernburg] to".

In and around Baalberge there were originally several other burial mounds, all of which except for the Schneiderberg were destroyed in the late 18th and 19th centuries. To the east of the post mill was the Long Mountain . The Schinderberg , which was destroyed in 1793, was located at today's cemetery . In 1794 a burial mound near Rönitz was removed. Another destroyed burial mound is the Tochauer Berg near Kleinwirschleben .

In the wider area there are still some preserved burial mounds, such as the Stockhof burial mound near Gröna to the west and the Pfingstberg , the Pohlsberg and the peak Hoch bei Latdorf and the Fuchsberg near Weddegast to the north . Also to the north are the three large stone graves Heringsberg near Grimschleben , Bierberg near Gerbitz and Steinerne Hütte near Latdorf.

History of the hill

The name of the hill, according to Bekmann, comes from the fact that the Gospels were read publicly there several times in the past centuries , in the 16th century supposedly even personally by Prince Wolfgang von Anhalt-Köthen (1508–1562). At the time of Bekmann's research around 1710, the hill seems to have been intact, Heinrich Lindner, however, mentions the Schneiderberg around 1833 as the only still preserved burial mound in the area around Baalberge. The Gospel Mountain must have been removed in the meantime. No information is available about prehistoric finds.
