The large stone grave Steinerne Hütte is a Neolithic megalithic grave complex near Latdorf , a district of Nienburg (Saale) in the Salzlandkreis , Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The grave is located halfway between Latdorf and Borgesdorf south of highway 73, directly east on a dirt road. There are numerous other prehistoric monuments in the vicinity: the Spitzes Hoch grave mound is only 300 m south, the Fuchsberg grave mound 1.6 km southeast, the Pohlsberg grave mound 1.5 km west, the Bierberg grave mound 2.8 km northwest , 3 km west of the Pfingstberg burial mound and 3.8 km northwest of the Heringsberg large stone grave .

description

The stone hut, like the other large stone graves in the area, originally presumably had a mound, but this was completely cleared long before the 19th century. Speculations that this happened in 1644 during the construction of a warehouse during the Thirty Years' War cannot be proven. The complex has a northeast-southwest oriented, slightly trapezoidal burial chamber with a length of about 7 m and a width of about 2.5 m. It is not out of granite - boulders , but from sandstone built plates. The wall panels are largely intact. The north-western long side has three large plates, the south-eastern long side two large and three small plates. The narrow sides each have a large end plate. One large one in the northeast and two smaller ones have been preserved from the cover plates. More fragments are scattered around. The chamber has the remains of a paving and a row of limestone slabs set up vertically along the north-western long side . Access to the burial chamber could not be determined, so it can be addressed as a large dolmen .

The only finds from the stone hut are some ceramic shards and a flint cut, which were found in the middle of the burial chamber. However, the finds are not conclusive enough to be able to assign the grave to a specific archaeological culture .
