The passage grave Bierberg is a megalithic grave complex from the Neolithic Age , which is located on the Bierberg south of the village Gerbitz, northeast of Bernburg in Saxony-Anhalt . In the literature it is listed among the southernmost megalithic stone graves in Central Europe .
location
The passage grave is located in a group of trees on the Bierberg directly on the edge of the road that leads via Latdorf to Bernburg. south of Gerbitz, immediately east of the road to Latdorf. There are several other large stone graves in the vicinity. 1.8 km west of the Heringsberg stone grave near Grimschleben , 2.8 km southeast of the Steinerne Hütte stone grave near Latdorf, 6.3 km east of the Drosa stone grave and 7.8 km east of the Wulfen stone grave .
description
The passage grave consists of hewn sandstone blocks and has a length of 6.8 m and an outer width of about three meters, with a height of about two meters. He resembles the Karlsteins of Osnabrück . It has 11 preserved bearing stones - four cap stones (two are on top) and a short lateral access to the west consisting of two pairs of bearing stones and one cap stone. Seen from the north in the direction of the longitudinal axis, the dolmen looks like a compact, closed stone house with a regular shape. The northern capstone does not rest on one side on its carrier stone , but, as with the Sundermann stones, on an inserted stone. The name Bierberg could refer to the fact that the dolmen was hilltop until historical times. It was looted in the early 19th century.
The large stone graves in the hall area are attributed to deep-engraving ceramics and the Walternienburg-Bernburg culture (3200–2800 BC), and the dolmens were built by the Neolithic groups of the funnel beaker culture (TBK). As elsewhere in Western Europe, dolmens and menhirs coexist in their area . The next menhir is three kilometers away on a hill near Latdorf.
