Both were good friends of Wolle Kriwanek , who became known as a singer of blues and rock music with Swabian lyrics and who only one week before his death inspired Markus Stricker to write songs with Swabian lyrics as well.

Wendrsonn made their first appearance in February 2005 at a benefit festival for the victims of the tsunami disaster. Shortly after this concert, Biggi Binder joined Wendrsonn as a singer.

style

Wendrsonn mix rock, blues, ska and folk with old traditional melodies and Swabian folk songs, some of which are changed rhythmically and melodically. Most of the band's repertoire, however, is their own compositions, mostly from the pen of Markus Stricker, with clear borrowings from bluegrass , American folk and Irish folk .

Especially the violin sound, alienated by effects and guitar amplifiers, and the often two-part lead vocals shape Wendrsonn's musical style. In addition to classic instruments from rock music such as electric guitar , keyboard , drums and bass , instruments such as banjo , western guitar , Irish bouzouki , mandolin , ukulele , tin whistle , recorder , blues harp , washboard and accordion are increasingly used.

Most of the band's lyrics are in Swabian . Wendrsonn likes to deal with historical events, old legends, fairy tales and traditions from the Swabian and Alemannic culture.

Wolfgang Wulz, author, historian, Germanist and chairman of the association "Schwäbische mund.art eV" wrote in the Backnang district newspaper "Striker's texts have a high poetic quality, they represent home culture in today's world".

Typical for Wendrsonn is the energetic stage show, in which Markus Stricker stands out. Another trademark is the extensive moderation between the songs, in which Stricker allows cabaret elements to flow in or provides detailed information about the historical background of the individual texts.

Another item on the program are the so-called Wendrlieder (winter songs), a collage of the band's titles, songs from the Renaissance , old folk and church songs, all of which deal with the topic of winter and its emotional perception.
