The Protestant parish church is a listed church building in Adorf , a district of the Diemelsee community in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district ( Hesse ).

Architecture and equipment

The church, formerly consecrated to St. John the Baptist , was the seat of a vice archdeacon from 1231 . The unified Romanesque building from the second half of the 12th century is the largest of its kind in the wider area. The three double yokes of the pillar basilica of the bound system rest on low pillars. The choir with a semicircular apse is almost square. Of the apses of the side aisles, only the northern one is preserved. The strong west tower with a pyramid helmet is built in front. It was built around 1200 as a defense tower. The triumphal arch rests on presented columns. The pulpit from 1610 with intricately carved panels and the altarpiece with a Last Supper painting from the end of the 17th century are remarkable . During renovation work in 1963, the remains of the former side galleries were uncovered, which are remarkable for their rural painting.

For some time now, the choir has been painted in the original red and white color scheme.

Five bells hang in the tower, three of which were cast by the Rincker bell foundry in 1983 or 1987. The two larger bells were cast at the beginning of the 16th century and most likely come from the school of Gerhard van Wou .
