The Protestant church is a listed church building in Balhorn , a district of the Bad Emstal community in the Kassel district ( Hesse ).

History and architecture

A previous building was mentioned in a document in 1342. The Gothic fortified tower with originally an open fortified storey was built at the end of the 15th century. The hood was put on in 1724. The former choir is arched like a dome . The former nave was demolished in 1742 and replaced by a baroque hall church with a western apse in the west by 1748 . In 1894 the church was widened by two aisles and completely renovated.

Remnants of the wall and the substructure of the gatehouse have been preserved from the Gothic fortified cemetery .

Furnishing

  • A ceiling painting by Karl Wiederhold in the neo-baroque style
  • An organ with 2 manuals and 15 registers, which is still completely preserved in its historical structure.
