The Evangelical Church Zweifall in the Stolberg district of Zweifall is a church from 1683.

history

The Protestant community in Zweifall was founded in 1575. Initially, the service was celebrated either in private houses or in the attic of the current old rectory. In 1683 they built their own house of worship themselves. For this purpose, the community raised funds amounting to 338 Reichstalers as well as iron and stone donations.

Sanctuary

The church was built from rubble stone . It has a length of almost 20 m. As a contrast, the pale limestone arches of the windows and the entrance door stand out from the gray walls.

In the central aisle of the nave there was originally the grave slab of the riding master Hilger Zülpich. During renovation work in 2000/2001, it was moved to an inside wall next to the entrance.

The original wooden altar was replaced by a marble altar in 1910. According to the inscription on the back, it is a gift from Pastor Berninghaus on the occasion of his silver wedding anniversary.

The baptismal font of the church was made of black marble in 1862. It bears the inscription: Go into all the world and baptize all peoples in the name of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be damned.

Six grave slabs, partly in front of the altar as floor slabs, partly as wall slabs, remind of two pastors and four parishioners.

The construction of the organ in 1828 was made possible, among other things, by a donation of 400 Thalers from Friedrich Wilhelm III.

The keystone above the portal arch shows the year 1683 as well as the inscription The Lord bless and protect your entrance and exit from now ahn to eternity.

Church treasures

A cast iron cross and two silver candlesticks were donated by the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III in 1835. In 1733 two brothers donated a silver goblet in memory of their deceased brother. In 1824 the Cologne Bible Society gave an altar Bible as a gift to the church.
