St. Mary's Conception (Dorff)
St. Mary's Conception is the parish church of the Stolberg district of Dorff in the Aachen city region .
General
Since the establishment of the imperial abbey in the neighboring town of Kornelimünster , Dorff belonged to the parish of the Benedictine monastery . The parish church was the church St. Stephan auf dem Berge located there .
Dorff had had its own chapel since 1756, which was dedicated to the Blessed Mother . Services were held there with the permission of the abbey . Of this chapel only the former chapel door remains, which is in the wall of a neighboring house with an inscription and the year 1756. When the imperial abbey was dissolved in the course of secularization in 1802 , the parish church of St. Hubertus took over responsibility for the believers in the village. Several applications to be reassigned to Kornelimünster were made but rejected. The trigger was repeated disputes between Büsbach and Dorff about desired church services.
On April 1, 1904, Dorff became an independent parish rectorate , in 1914 parish vicarie , but was still assigned to the Büsbach parish. This changed on March 13, 2004, when Dorff became an independent parish with the parish church of St. Mary's Conception.
The building
In 1855 the local believers decided to build their own church instead of the chapel, which had become too small for the growing number of believers. A fundraising campaign that lasted more than ten years began. The foundation stone for the new building was laid on December 12, 1866. In the course of 1867 St. Mary's Conception was built in Gothic form. After two years of construction, the interior fittings were completed in the spring of 1869. The community owed this to a large extent to the rector Schmitz, who was responsible for the purchase of the high altar , the benches, the confessional , the unanimous bells, the choir windows as well as the new flooring and a whole series of new vestments . St. Mary's Conception was inaugurated in June 1869.
The first pastor arrived in 1897. But he died without having performed a single ecclesiastical act. It was not until 1899 that St. Mary's Conception received a new priest of her own.
On January 15, 1969, work began on modernizing the church choir. It should be adapted to the new liturgical style. The work was completed in the same year.
The church was renovated again to mark the 90th anniversary of the parish of St. Mary's Conception.
