history

Settlement and development of the Donnerberg began in the 19th century. The residents of Donnerberg belonged to the Church of St. Barbara Pump-Stich . However, the way to attend church services in Pump-Stich was too difficult for the residents, so they tried to find their own church. Between 1906 and 1907 the efforts were successful and a separate church was built according to plans by the Cologne architect Heinrich Forthmann. When the church was completed in 1907, Donnerberg also had its own clergyman. The church consecration took place much later on July 22, 1917. On July 1, 1923 Donnerberg was finally completely separated from the parish pump-stitch and raised to an independent parish .

As a result of the Second World War , the parish church was completely destroyed by artillery fire. After the rubble had been removed, the current church was built in 1953. The foundation stone was laid on January 26, 1953, and in December of the same year the first Holy Mass could be celebrated in the newly built church. The consecration finally took place on January 20, 1954. The Cologne architect RH Helbig designed the plans. He was a former employee in Heinrich Forthmann's office.

On January 1, 2010, the parish was dissolved in the course of the restructuring measures of the diocese of Aachen and with the also dissolved parishes of St. Sebastian Atsch , St. Franziskus Stolberg, St. Lucia Stolberg, Herz Jesu Münsterbusch , St. Hermann Josef Liester and St. Mariä Himmelfahrt Stolberg-Mühle merged to form the new large parish St. Lucia Stolberg.
