Münsterbusch is a western part of Stolberg (Rhld.) In the Aachen city region with around 7,000 inhabitants.

Münsterbusch is located on a ridge between the Inde and Vicht valley , which extends in a north-south direction. The district is bounded in the north by Unterstolberg and Atsch , in the east by Oberstolberg , in the south by Büsbach and in the west by the Muensterbusch nature reserve between Hamm and Haumuehle (ACK-015) , part of the Brander Wald training area.

In Stolberg, the Inde is also called Münsterbach from the confluence of the Vicht upstream . In old maps the brook is still referred to as Münsterbach . The Münsterbachtal, the Münsterbachstrasse and the Münsterbusch nature reserve and the Münsterbachtal FFH area are named after them.

In the Middle Ages, the imperial abbey Kornelimünster was the owner of extensive estates, including Münsterbusch and the Münsterländchen .

history

At the beginning of the 19th century , the area of ​​today's district was still undeveloped. He was called " Münsterkohlberg " and belonged to Mairie Büsbach . Together with Büsbach, the developed industrial town of Münsterbusch came to Stolberg in 1935. Münsterbusch was the location of the James mine , the Münsterbusch lead smelter and the Münsterbusch zinc smelter and a glass producing industry. The landmark was the "Lange Hein", a zinc smelter's chimney built in 1857 to prevent vegetation damage. For a long time it was one of the tallest chimneys in Germany and was blown up in 1963.

The “Glashütter Weiher” sports complex with indoor swimming pool and stadium, the main police station in Stolberg and the fire and rescue station are located in the Münsterbusch. The Museum Zinkhütter Hof is housed in a former factory building from the 19th century . An extension of the museum is set up in the oldest workers' houses in North Rhine-Westphalia. The next junction is "Aachen-Brand" on the A 44 . The nearest train stations are the Euregiobahn stops at Stolberg-Mühlener Bahnhof and Stolberg-Rathaus . AVV bus lines connect Münsterbusch with almost all other parts of Stolberg, as well as with Eilendorf and Aachen- Mitte.

From 1887 Münsterbusch had a railway connection to the Stolberg Hbf station with its own station , which was operated for freight traffic until the 1980s.
