Dorff was first mentioned in 1178 as "Dorp": Theodoricus von Dorp gave away part of his property in 1178 in favor of the St. Nikolaus Hospital in Kornelimünster . The name Dorff can be derived from the even older form " torp ", which suggests that it was founded by the Franks between the 4th and 6th centuries. The designation "dorpff" with two fs is documented for the first time in 1601.

Until 1793 Dorff belonged to the imperial abbey Kornelimünster , to which it had to pay the highest tax rate of the entire Münsterland with 65 florins (guilders) before Büsbach with 51 florins according to a register from the 15th century.

The Schwarzenburg moated castle , of which only the entrance gate remains, is the core of the medieval village settlement . Its builder was Reinhard Soldener von Schwartzenbergh, who is named on October 28, 1404 as a feudal man of the Abbot of Kornelimünster. The coat of arms of this sex is the Kerbkreuz. Houses made of bluestone are typical for Dorff . In the Thirty Years' War , many buildings are destroyed.

In 1688, after a two-day siege by French troops, Schwarzenburg was robbed and burned to the ground, although the Gressenich Hunschaft sent reinforcements of fifty men. Adrian von Beyland, lord of the manor, and other defenders were killed.

In 1756 Dorff got its own chapel and in 1867 a church. A school existed from 1881 to 1968. In 1793, Dorff was the scene of a battle between French and German troops. Thereafter, Dorff and Krauthausen belong to Mairie Büsbach in the French canton of Eschweiler, which has 900 inhabitants . Since 1815, when Dorff fell to Prussia , it has belonged to the Aachen district .

In 1935, Dorff and Münsterbusch are incorporated into Stolberg as part of the Büsbach community . American troops occupy the place in September 1944.

religion

Of the old chapel, which was consecrated to the Mother of God, only the entrance door on the side of the house at Krauthausener Str. 1 with an inscription and the year from 1756 remains. After it had become too small, today's Church of St. Mary's Conception was built in 1867 . The Catholic parish of Dorff has been an independent parish rectorate since April 1, 1904 , and later became a vicarie . The gilded tower monstrance from 1904 was restored in 2002.

Next to the parish church is the Marienkapelle, built in 1958 .
