from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Diakonische Stiftung Ummeln ( Protestant Foundation Ummeln until November 2015 ) and its subsidiaries operate facilities and services for integration assistance and youth welfare in Westphalia-Lippe and southern Lower Saxony . The Foundation was founded in 1866 and is one of the oldest carriers diaconal work in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is headquartered in Bielefeld and employs around 750 people.

history

The facility, founded in 1866, developed into reforming homes for girls and young women in the 20th century . The locations of this work were Bad Lippspringe , Tecklenburg , Soest , Bielefeld-Ummeln and Werther (Westphalia) . The men's asylum in Enger was continued as a men's home until 1974. The educational work was carried out in accordance with the respective valid educational ideals and according to diaconal self-image by deaconesses of the deaconess mother house Sarepta / Bethel . Work and piety were considered to be basic requirements for a decent life; integration into society was achieved through work assignments with neighboring farmers and in local households. Within the facilities, the young women were trained and their domestic skills were trained.

In the 1970s, the educational practices were viewed critically and led to the reorientation of the institutions.

After the deaconesses were replaced, the educational work was carried out with a socio-educational orientation.

In Wiedenbrück , the work for the people of the Enger men's home was continued and also opened up to people with mental and emotional disabilities.

In Werther / Westphalia and in Bielefeld-Ummeln, facilities for people with mental and mental disabilities were built in addition to the reform home. In addition, the now so-called Ummeln youth welfare service remained as the only educational facility in Bielefeld-Ummeln, offering 50 residential and training places for girls and young women.

In the years that followed, these facilities and services were further developed.
