Evarist Pinto

Evarist Pinto (born December 31, 1933 in Goa , India ) is retired Archbishop of Karachi .

Life

Evarist Pinto received his philosophical and theological training in the seminary in Karachi. He received on 6 January 1968, the sacrament of holy orders and was then at the Pontifical Urban University in Biblical Studies doctorate. At the Roman Biblical Institute he obtained a master's degree in Sacred Scripture .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Castra Severiana in 2000 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Karachi . He was ordained bishop on April 25, 2000 by the Archbishop of Karachi, Simeon Anthony Pereira ; Co- consecrators were Max John Rodrigues , Bishop of Hyderabad in Pakistan, and Andrew Francis , Bishop of Multan .

After the death of Simeon Anthony Pereira in 2002 he was appointed administrator ; In 2004 he was appointed Archbishop of Karachi by John Paul II. On January 25, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI. the resignation submitted by Evarist Pinto for reasons of age.

He was involved in the 2006 World Social Forum in Karachi.
