Evelien Callens

Evelien Callens (born July 19, 1984 in Gent ) is a Belgian basketball player .

Club career

The 1.87 m tall Power Forward started playing basketball at the age of six for the Ghent club BBC Jeugd Gentson . In 1999 she joined IMC Waregem , where she played for three years. She then moved to the USA for a year at the University of Nevada Basketball Club, Las Vegas , where she was used in the NCAA . In 2003 she returned to Belgium, where she signed a contract with the first division club Tulikivi Deerlijk and had a successful season. Her achievement was crowned by being voted basketball player of the year 2004 in Belgium. Then she played again for a year for her ex-club IMC Waregem and for Dexia Namur . She played with Namur in the 2005/06 season in the Euroleague Women . Since 2006 she has been under contract with the Italian first division club Basket Spezia Club .

Career in the national team

In qualifying for the 2005 European Championship in Turkey , Evelien Callens was used in 10 Belgian games. At the 2007 European Championships in Italy , she took part in four qualifying matches and reached the finals with her team, where she was on the field in all Belgian games.
