Ewald Astrath

Ewald Astrath (* 1932 ; † December 25, 2009 ) was a German handball player , trainer and official.

Life

In 1958 and 1961, the goalkeeper was one of the extended ranks of the all-German national handball teams. He also played for the selection of the German Democratic Republic .

For almost 20 years he was a coach at SC Dynamo Berlin . From 1993 to 1995 he coached VfL Potsdam , which he led to promotion to the league in the 1994/95 season.

From 1957 to 1991 Astrath was deputy chairman of the German handball association of the German Democratic Republic. After the end of the GDR he was from November 1991 Vice President of Competitive Sports on the board of the German Handball Federation (DHB). At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and at the 1993 World Cup in Sweden , he was the head of the German team. In 1993 he left the DHB board.
