Ewald Follmann (born January 28, 1926 - † June 20, 1990 ) was a German football player .

Career

societies

Follmann played for Saarland- based VfB Neunkirchen - which was initially not allowed to use the name Borussia (neo-Latin for Prussia ) - initially in the 1946/47 to 1947/48 season in the northern group of the Oberliga Südwest ; the 1948/49 season in the Saarland Honor League .

During the 1949/50 season he was active from July 1949 to January 1950 for the French first division club FC Metz , which he left in February 1950. As the last place in the championship, his team was relegated to Division 2 .

The second half of the 1949/50 season he then played for SV St. Ingbert in the second-rate probation class Saar , before he returned to VfB Neunkirchen for the 1950/51 season and played only private games for this. With the integration of the Saarland clubs into the German league structure in 1951 , he also returned - now with Borussia Neunkirchen - and played point games in the Oberliga Südwest until 1961 .

In 1952/53 he was used in the competition for the DFB Cup and made his debut on August 17, 1952 in a 2-1 first-round victory over FC Schalke 04 . In the round of 16 , he and his team fell out of the game, as they lost 2-0 at Hamburger SV on November 19, 1952 .

As a runner-up in the 1958/59 season , he consequently took part in the qualifying game to take part in the final round of the German Championship , which, however, was lost on May 3, 1959 3: 6 against Werder Bremen ; just like the final for the DFB Cup in Kassel on December 27, 1959 with 2: 5 against Schwarz-Weiß Essen , after having played in the semifinals on October 3 in the 2-1 victory over VfR Mannheim and the only goal his team had scored.

As again runner-up in the 1959/60 season , he again took part in the final round of the German championship . This was played in two groups of four teams each with a return leg, of which both winners contested the final. In Group 1 , he played the last four group games. Group winners Hamburger SV , who beat 1. FC Köln 3-2 , moved into the final . He finished his last season as an active footballer with Borussia Neunkirchen again in second place.

National team

For the Saarland national team , he played three international matches and scored one goal. He made his debut in the very first international match, which ended on November 22, 1950 in Saarbrücken with a 1-1 draw in a friendly against the Swiss national team . He played his second international match on October 9, 1955 - also in Saarbrücken - which was won 7-5 against France's B national team. In his last appearance as a national player , on November 16, 1955 in Saarbrücken, he scored his only goal in the 1: 2 defeat against the national team of the Netherlands .
