Exile on Mainstream Records is a German independent label that was founded in 1999.

history

The label was founded on April 1st, 1999 by Andreas "Kanzler" Kohl. At that time he was in a band called Payola and was good friends with their label boss Stefan Schilling from Loudsprecher . Since the group members had four songs left after the recordings for the new album and wanted to publish them as a 7 ″ single , they approached Kohl. He then founded the Exile on Mainstream Records label with Alexandra Brand, then editor-in-chief of Visions magazine, and published a series of 7 ″ singles in cigar boxes . Then the next Payola album appeared on the label and other bands such as Hamburg's Tigerbeatfollowed. Brandt later left, whereupon the label was headed from 2003 to 2012 by Kohl and his wife Beate. In 2012, the other company of both, the label management, promotion and booking agency Southern Germany, which was seamlessly connected with Exile on Mainstream Records, was closed, after which the label was managed by Andreas Kohl alone. Kohl, who has worked as a manager in a record pressing plant since 2013, does not run the label full-time. He publishes records that he likes himself through his label. The best-selling publications so far came from A Whisper in the Noise , Wino and Conny Ochs , Friedemann and Place of Skulls .
