backgrounds

After the commercially unsuccessful EP I Don't Wanna Grow Up , Bebe Rexha succeeded in 2017 with her two follow-up works All Your Fault: Pt. 1 and All Your Fault: Pt. 2 in the US charts. As a result, the artist, who already received attention in 2013 as the author of the number one hit The Monster by Eminem and Rihanna as well as guest contributions to songs by other artists, became a household name, especially in the musician's home country, as a solo singer. Expectations is Rexha's first full-length release and has been eagerly anticipated by the music press.

The album was produced by Jason Evigan , Jussifer , Dre Pinckney , Triangle Park , David Garcia , Captain Cuts , Andrew Wells , The Monsters & Strangerz , German , Hit-Boy , Louis Bell , The Stereotypes and Willshire . Quavo , Tory Lanez and Florida Georgia Line appear as guest interpreters . Bebe Rexha was involved as a songwriter on all titles; Lauren Christy supported her on six of them . In addition, various additional co-authors worked on all songs.

Three singles were released from the album: I Got You , Meant to Be and I'm a Mess . Second song, which is already on All Your Fault: Pt. 2 , was a top ten hit in several countries and positioned itself in some year-end lists, including the USA, where it reached number 2 on the charts and became the third most successful title of 2018. The other two singles were also crowned with commercial successes of varying magnitude in various countries. In the German-speaking area, all three songs sold only moderately in international comparison.

Music and lyrics

In Expectations is a pop album , which by integrations of both the country - as well as the alternative rock strikes -music. The singer presents herself on several songs as an antihero , and addresses her own fallibility and her peculiarities, often with pride. criticism

Expectations received mostly positive reviews. Above all, the playing with elements of other genres without neglecting the catchy character of pop was praised, as well as the lyrics in which the singer does not portray herself as a perfect starlet , but as an observer and narrator of a nihilistic scene. The singing of the musician has been compared to Ellie Goulding and Sia , among others , but the songs would stand out due to their musical influences as well as their dark themes and feelings and offer a refreshing change from other pop songs.

success

Despite the great popularity of the piece Meant to Be , Expectations was only a moderate to moderate commercial success internationally. The United States did best; it reached number 13 and was awarded a gold record. In Germany , Austria and Switzerland it climbed to positions 55, 71 and 31; 33rd in the UK. However , he failed to make the top ten in any country.
