The Zweckverband Brombachsee is a public corporation with its seat in Ramsberg am Brombachsee , a district of the market town of Pleinfeld in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The purpose of the association is to develop the Brombachsee , a reservoir consisting of the Großer Brombachsee and its two barrages, the Kleiner Brombachsee and Igelsbachsee . The lakes and their banks are the property of the Free State of Bavaria . However, in 1972 the Free State assigned the Zweckverband the task of developing the lakes for tourism on behalf of the Free State and ensuring their proper use.

The association includes the administrative district Middle Franconia , the administrative districts Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen and Roth as well as the six municipalities Haundorf , Pfofeld , the market Pleinfeld, the market Absberg , the city Gunzenhausen (all administrative district Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen) and the city Spalt (administrative district Roth).

The Brombachsee association develops the lakes for tourism and makes them accessible to the general public. The Zweckverband is responsible for the planning, construction and maintenance of streets, paths and parking spaces in the area and takes on the land-use planning of certain areas of the neighboring communities. The Zweckverband maintains the beaches of the five lake centers, the ports of Ramsberg, Langlau, Enderndorf and Absberg , several boat rental stations, sanitary facilities, playgrounds, barbecue areas and Kneipp facilities as well as several catering buildings and a campsite in Langlau . It is also responsible for wastewater treatment and operates the Brombachsee sewage treatment plant near Prexelmühle , which was built in 1988 together with the municipality of Pleinfeld and is designed as a central sewage treatment plant for all municipalities for a capacity of 30,000 inhabitants.
