The house at Fährstraße 24 in Stralsund (2012)

The building with the postal address Fährstraße 24 is a listed building on Fährstraße in Stralsund . It forms a unit with the neighboring building called “ Scheelehaus ”, Fährstraße 23.

The two-storey house with gable ends was built in the 14th century. It was rebuilt in 1637, again in the 19th century.

During a renovation from 1980 to 1983, the ground floor was made in the version of the medieval gabled house, the gable in the version of the redesigns of the 17th and 19th centuries. The central pointed arch cover above the portal is flanked by a high arched window. On the first floor there are segmental arches and rectangular windows in the stepped gable . The gable is crowned by a triangular attachment.

The hallway inside the house was renovated in 1983 with a baroque gallery. The adjoining stones set up in front of the entrance in 1983 were owned by the Stralsund Cultural History Museum . Until the renovation in 2010, the lettering “Scheele Haus” was placed above the entrance. The house had had this name since 1875, when the Polytechnic Association put up a memorial plaque; the chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele was born in the neighboring building.

After the renovation in the 1980s, a restaurant of the HO was located here. In 2001 the restaurant closed.

Both buildings were in need of renovation until 2010. They were owned by the city of Stralsund until 2010, as a sale had failed due to the high renovation costs. As an interim solution, the rooms were used for an exhibition of models of Stralsund's buildings. In March 2010 Joachim Siemers, boss of the Altonaer Kistenfabrik Adolf Siemers, acquired the house for 90,000 euros ; The costs for renovation errors from the 1980s were deducted from the purchase price of 1.6 million euros. He had the houses renovated and opened restaurants and the Hotel Scheelehof on the premises .

The house is located in the core area of the city area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site of the “ historic old towns of Stralsund and Wismar ”. It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with the number 175.
