Félix Auguste Clément (born May 20, 1826 in Donzère , † February 2, 1888 in Algiers ) was a French painter who was best known for his orientalist scenes.

Clément studied painting at the École des beaux-arts de Lyon with Jean-Claude Bonnefond and continued his studies from 1848 at the École des beaux-arts de Paris with Michel-Martin Drolling and François-Édouard Picot .

In 1856 he received the Prix ​​de Rome for his painting “The Return of Young Tobias”. Clément stayed in Rome until 1862 and then went to Egypt , where he worked until 1868. On behalf of Prince Halim, he executed wall paintings depicting gazelle hunts in his palace in Shubra . He also painted numerous scenes from the oriental milieu.

In 1868 he returned to France. Four years later he was commissioned by the government to copy Andrea Mantegna's paintings in Padua , but had to stop work due to illness. He was a professor at the École des beaux-arts in Lyon from 1874 to 1877 and then retired. In 1877 he returned to Padua to finish the copies of the Mantegna frescoes and then settled in Paris. For health reasons he spent the winter of 1887/88 in Algiers, where he died.
