The FA Cup , also Sierra Leone FA Cup , in the long form Sierra Leone Football Association Cup , is the cup competition for Sierra Leonean football teams . It has been organized as a national competition by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) since 1962 .

The winning team receives the FA Cup Trophy and gold medals as a challenge cup, and silver medals are awarded to the finalists.

history

The predecessor of the cup competition for club teams in Sierra Leone was an annual game between a selection of the colony of Sierra Leone and the protectorate of Sierra Leone since 1936 . From 1939 to 1954 the Sir Douglas Jardine Cup was played. The competition was replaced in 1995 by the Regional Cup , which was a competition of provincial selections.

In the Western Area , the former crown colony , cup competitions were organized first from 1925 to 1967 under the umbrella of the SLFA and then by the Western Area Football Association (WAFA) until 1969. From 1949 to 1976 this was the Association Cup , from 1949 to 1954 also the Beresford-Stooke Cup (named after the former Governor George Beresford-Stooke ), from 1945 to 1995 the Stevenson's Cup , which was named Chellaram Cup from 1956 to 1969 .

mode

As of 2013/14 All properly registered teams of the Premier League as well as the First League and Second League are eligible to play. The game is played in four preliminary rounds, followed by quarter and semi-finals and a final. With the exception of the final, all matches will be played as a home and away game .
