The FC Emmenbrücke is a Swiss football club from Emmen , a municipality in the canton of Lucerne . The club currently plays in the 2nd interregional league , the fifth highest division in Switzerland.

history

FC Emmenbrücke was founded in 1921 and played in various amateur leagues for over 60 years, with modest success. For the 1988/89 season they played in the National League B for the first time . In the NLB relegation round, the club prevailed against FC Biel-Bienne and Renens FC and managed to maintain the league. A year later, FC Emmenbrücke took eighth place in Group East of National League B and again prevented relegation to the first division . After the 1991/92 season, the club rose athletically as the last of the NLB relegation round in the first division, but was allowed to remain in the league for another season, since Étoile Sportive FC Malley and SC Zug did not have the license for the National League B. was granted. A year later, however, relegation to the first division could no longer be prevented.

After relegating from the NLB to the first division, a debt-ridden Emmenbrücke was even relegated to the regional third division until 1999. It was not until 2002 that the regional turning point was achieved with promotion to the second division. Under a new board, Emmenbrücke managed to move up to the newly established 2nd interregional league in the 2005/06 season. In 2007/08, with a 4-0 away win against FC Wettingen 93 in the penultimate round, it was even enough to return to the first division, where FC Emmenbrücke finished the season in an excellent fourth place. In the same season, a successful grouping of A to C juniors was founded with the neighboring SC Emmen under the name "Emmen United".

At the end of the 2009/10 season, which was marked by enormous drawbacks for FC Emmenbrücke due to the guest appearance of FC Luzern in the Gersag stadium , the 1st team had to accept relegation to the 2nd interregional league again in the decider against SC Cham . In the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons, there was again direct relegation to the third division. FC Emmenbrücke then only missed immediate re-promotion in the 2015/16 season in the last promotion game. Two years later, the promotion to the 2nd regional league was successful and at the end of the 2018/19 season, FC Emmenbrücke returned to the 2nd interregional league as IFV regional champion . In the same period, however, the 2nd team of FC Emmenbrücke rose from the 3rd division to the 5th division, the junior group "Emmen United" had to be suspended and the only A-junior team was withdrawn.
