Kurt "Kudi" Müller (born May 9, 1948 in Lucerne ) is a former Swiss football player (striker) and coach .

Life

Kudi Müller grew up in Lucerne with three siblings. In 1973 he became the owner of a sports shop in the city of Lucerne. His wife, brother and sister work in the sports shop, while Kudi devotes himself to sports activities. His sports shop has been called Kudi Müller - Sport AG since March 1978 . Müller is the father of four children (one daughter and three sons). He lives with his wife in Dierikon in Lucerne .

career

The trained sign painter from Emmenbrücke in Lucerne went through the youth stations at FC Emmenbrücke and joined FC Luzern in the National League A in 1968 . In the first year of the NLA he was relegated with Lucerne in 1968/69, but managed to get promoted again with his teammates together with FC Sion. Like Egon Milder , he scored 13 goals in the promotion round in 1969/70. With 15 goals, he played a decisive role in keeping FC Luzern in the 1970/71. His personal performance was also recognized by his national team debut on December 16, 1970. After three rounds at FC Luzern, he accepted the offer from Grasshopper Club Zurich and played in the Hardturm Stadium in 1971/72 . He scored 13 goals for GC and finished third with the Hoppers . Since his striker qualities had meanwhile also been noticed in the Bundesliga , Müller said goodbye to Zurich after a year and a half and moved to the Spree and played at Hertha BSC in Berlin from the second half of 1972/73 .

In the first round in the country of the new European football champions in 1972 he was immediately a regular under coach Helmut Kronsbein alongside Erich Beer and Lorenz Horr. In 15 games he scored five goals. In his second year he was like his namesake Ludwig Müller with 32 appearances and nine goals in the core of the core team of the Berliners, who finished eighth at the end of the round. His third year in Berlin, 1974/75, was outstanding in terms of sport, when he played 30 league games in winning the runner-up behind Borussia Mönchengladbach and scored six goals for coach Georg Keßler's team. On April 19, 1975, Müller scored both goals for a 2-1 home win in front of 90,000 spectators in the top game against coach Hennes Weisweiler's team . His opponent was national defender Berti Vogts . After three years in the Bundesliga with 77 appearances and 20 goals, he was drawn back home, for the 1975/76 round he signed with Servette FC .

In the Stade des Charmilles , the offensive player immediately made it to the runner-up and moved into the cup final with the garnet red in his first season with coach Jürgen Sundermann and teammates Alfred Hussner and Hans-Jörg Pfister . Against the double winner FC Zurich the final was lost with 0-1 goals. In the second season of 1976/77, a playoff against FC Basel decided the Swiss championship. In the final group games, the competitors were tied with 29 points each and rushed away from their rivals. Basel prevailed 2-1, Müller was responsible for the Servettiens' goal . After these two runners-up championships, he moved to the state capital and played four more seasons for BSC Young Boys Bern . With YB Müller was twice in the Cup finals in 1979 and 1980, but lost both finals against Servette Geneve and FC Sion.

This was followed by activities as a player coach at the clubs in Kriens, Emmenbrücke, Altdorf, SC Obergeissenstein and Kickers Luzern until the age of 46. Since 2002 he has been working as a professional trainer in the youth field at FC Luzern.

National team, 1970 to 1977

Between 1970 and 1977 Müller played 41 games for the Swiss national football team in which he scored seven goals. Under coach Louis Maurer he made his debut on December 16, 1970 in the European Championship qualifier in Piraeus against Greece in the national team. At the side of Karl Odermatt , Jakob Kuhn , Rolf Blättler and Fritz Künzli , he scored the winning goal for the 1-0 success. Special games were the games on September 4, 1974 in Basel against the new soccer world champion Germany and on September 3, 1975 against England, in which he scored the Swiss consolation goal in both 1: 2 home defeats. After the World Cup qualifier against Norway on October 30, 1977 in Bern, he left the national team after 41 games. He was substituted on by coach Roger Vonlanthen for the 1-0 winning goal scorer Claudio Sulser .
