The FC Tskhinvali ( Georgian სპარტაკი ცხინვალი) is a Georgian football club from Gori and currently plays in the second division of Georgia , the Pirveli Liga . The club colors are blue and black.
General
The roots of the association lie with the association "FK Spartak Tskhinvali" founded in 1936 in the Soviet Union. This association was originally based in Tskhinvali , the capital of South Ossetia , at that time an autonomous region within the Georgian republic . Spartak Tskhinvali played mostly in lower class leagues; the most successful time the club had from 1968 to 1970, when they spent three seasons in the Soviet second division . After the collapse of the Soviet Unioncivil war broke out in South Ossetia, which ended with the de facto independence of South Ossetia. Most of the Georgian players then left the country; the association in exile was re-established. The Ossetian players stayed in Tskhinvali, where a club of the same name still exists today. However, he no longer took part in the newly founded Georgian league, but has since played in the amateur championship of the Russian region of North Ossetia-Alania .
The Georgian exile club, which is based in Gori , was far more successful: It rose to the highest Georgian league for the first time in 2005 , but was immediately relegated again. In 2007 they were promoted again and the club played again in the top division of Georgia before they had to relegate again in the 2011/12 season . The club is currently back in the top division. In the same year the club, which had been running as FC Tskhinvali, was renamed FC Spartaki Tskhinvali. The home of the club is the Mikheil Meskhis Sakhelobis Stadium, which offers space for 2500 spectators and is located directly next to the Micheil Meschi Stadium .
